According to information, Haryana has provided assistance to 44,478 women so far, against the total number of 19,566 women in Punjab. Punjab has 23 OSCs against 22 in Haryana. In Himachal Pradesh, only 3,376 women had been assisted in 11 centres. After Haryana, it is NCT of Delhi, which reported more footfall than Punjab. In Delhi, 21,120 women had been assisted across 11 such OSCs.It may be recalled that due to an alarming increase in the rate of crime against women in the state, Haryana govt had been in the firing line of the opposition parties like the Congress.
NCRB data of previous years also establishes an increase in crime against women in Haryana. According to data released by police from time to time, it is established that at least 10-15 cases of crime against women, including abduction, molestation, rape, assault, etc., are registered in the state every day.“It is not just the data shared in Parliament, if you pick any research on crime against women, you will find Haryana on top. Steps need to be taken to set deterrence rather than indulging in lip service or manipulating the figures,” said Aftab Ahmed, the former deputy leader of opposition and senior Congress legislator in the Haryana assembly. The OSC is a centrally-funded project. Under this project, a combined team of health officials, social workers, and women police officials have been deployed to assist victims. Soon after any victim woman lands in hospital, she is referred to a one-stop centre functioning there.Ambala MP and two other Lok Sabha members had sought details about the measures taken by govt in dealing with violence against women. They had also sought details about assistance given and budget allocation for the OSCs.We also published the following articles recently
